COUNTRIES
UGANDA - MOUNTAINS OF THE MOON
Uganda is a landlocked country straddling the equator in East Africa. It is home to Lake Victoria and many of the world's last surviving Mountain Gorillas.
These gorillas represent perhaps the most powerful eco-image that the
country has to offer. There is however much more to Uganda than this;
it has a fantastic climate, an ever-changing and beautiful landscape,
and people who are honest, polite and genuinely pleased to help.
For the visitor, highlights of any visit to Uganda could include:
gorilla tracking, other primate tracking, i.e. chimps and colobus
monkeys, white water rafting on the River Nile, climbing The Ruwenzoris
or Mount Elgon, cultural events and birding.

It is situated in hilly countryside, which, together with some remnant lowland forest outside the boundary, constitutes an important water catchment area for many rivers, supplying the agricultural land of the surrounding region. |
![]() | Entebbe is situated on the shores of Lake Victoria, about 30 km from the capital city, Kampala that was until 1962 the administrative capital of the country. Very quiet compared with bustling Kampala, it is a rather pretty town, built on a number of small hills that slope down to the shores of the lake. |
![]() | Kibale, 766 km2 is one of Uganda's enchanting forested parks. Here, visitors can hike in the park for hours observing the drama of life in a rain forest. |
![]() | This is the largest National Park in Uganda with an area of 3840 km2. The River Nile divides the park into the north and south sectors and forms Falls where it flows over the western rift valley escarpment. Here, the river is forced through a 3-metre gap in the rocks and cascades into a boiling pot 30 metres below. A boat cruise up-stream to the falls provides an unforgettable experience. |
![]() | The park spreads over an area of 1978 km2 in the western arm of the Great East Rift Valley. It is a home to a variety of wildlife including elephant, lion, hippo, buffalo, Uganda cob, baboon, and a huge number of bird species. |
![]() | Semliki National Park, contains a secluded forest area at the base of the Ruwenzori Mountains on the border of The Democratic Republic of The Congo. The park's out of the way location makes it an ideal place to spend a few days relaxing away from the rest of the world. |
