ZIMBABWE - WATER WATER EVERYWHERE!

Zimbabwe is unique! Where else in the world can a visitor gaze upon hundreds of species of tropical wildlife, thrill to the experience of white water rafting, scale chilly mountain peaks and savour the history of a people that goes back tens of thousands of years?



Zimbabwe is home to the majestic Victoria Falls, which provides an opportunity for spectacular sightseeing and activities such as white water rafting, bungee jumping, game viewing, river cruises and spectacular flights over the Falls. Accommodation in the area ranges from small luxury private camps and lodges to grand five star hotels that boast golf courses and casinos.

Further south is Hwange National Park providing superb game viewing in several wonderful camps and lodges. To the northeast lie Lake Kariba and the Matusadona National Park where fishing, bird watching and game viewing opportunities on foot, by boat or in open-topped 4x4s are always highly rewarding. Accommodation in the area ranges from luxury lodges, to camps, water lodges and mobile safari outfits. Further north from Kariba is the Mana Pools National Park where luxury lodges and canoe safaris show you this wild part of Africa. To the south lie the eastern highlands where golf, horse riding and hiking offer a restful contrast to your safari experience.

On Zimbabwe's eastern border, running some three hundred kilometres from north to south is a string of mountains quite striking in its rugged beauty. Forming a natural border with neighbouring Mozambique, the Eastern Highlands vary from the gently rolling countryside near Nyanga in the north to the fierce granite spikes of Chimanimani.

Gonarezhou, in the southeastern part of the country is the country's second largest game reserve. The Mwenezi, Save and Runde rivers wind through the hot, semi-arid lowveld and support the rare suni antelope, striped king cheetah as well as some of the biggest and meanest elephants Africa.

Harare is derived from the Shona word "haarari" literally translated as one who does not sleep. Harare is Zimbabwe's prime city and home to close to 2 million people.

At 14 650 km Hwange is the largest game reserve in Zimbabwe. It has been a park for 70 years and has one the densest concentrations of wildlife in Africa with great herds of buffalo and elephant and all the "big five". The park has numerous facilities including an airport, good roads and a range of great accommodation options.

Lake Kariba is an artificial inland sea that covers 282km of the Zambezi Valley and is a very popular resort lake with a harbour, lakeside hotels and lodges, huge houseboats, marinas, water-sports and fishing.

Mana Pools has the country's biggest concentration of hippo and crocodiles and large dry season mammal populations of elephant and buffalo. This really is as wild a place as you will find in Zimbabwe.

The Matopos Hills comprise an extraordinary collection of huge bare granite hills with gravity-defying boulders scattered all over the countryside to create a quite unique and rather mysterious landscape. The most spectacular areas are within the Matopos National Park. The local Matabele people call it Malindidzimu (the place of ancestor spirits). The national park is famous for its outstanding views, San (bushman) painted caves, wildlife and as the chosen burial place of Cecil Rhodes who named his favourite spot World's View.

Without doubt, The Victoria Falls constitutes one of the most spectacular natural wonders of the world. Visitors gaze at the mighty Zambezi as it flows, broad and placid, to the brink of a basalt lip seventeen hundred metres wide before taking a headlong plunge into the frothy chasm of the gorge below.
