You've heard all about those walking safaris and how close they got to Lions - here's your chance to find out what they are on about!! The South Luangwa National Park is the Luangwa Valley's most accessible and popular park. It is 9050kmē and the concentration of game around the river is of the highest in Africa. Walking safaris were pioneered in this park and are still one of the best ways of experiencing the African wilderness. The park has sixty animal species and four hundred different bird species. This is one of the premier wilderness areas in Africa, famed for its seclusion and natural beauty. The park is well-known for large herds of elephants: Some herds numbering up to seventy. Buffalo and various antelope species are prolific throughout the park. In the river and adjoining pools, hippos and crocodiles can be seen in great numbers. The zebras peculiar to Luangwa can be seen everywhere: their stripes are evenly spaced as opposed to broad light stripes with a faint stripe in-between.
