Day one

Depart London Heathrow on an overnight flight with British Airways to Lusaka.

Day two

On arrival this morning, you will be met and assisted onto a Proflight charter to Mfuwe. Here you will be met and transferred by road to Tena Tena.

"Tena Tena is altogether beyond superlatives, and must be one of the best safari camps in the whole of Africa” (The Times of London).

This remote camp within the South Luangwa National Park enjoys a stunning location on a sweeping bend of the Luangwa River. A grove of mahogany trees shades four large custom-made tents, with en suite facilities, dressing room and veranda. The honeymoon suite is set slightly adjacent, with views toward the river. From the thatched dining room and bar, guests can watch the elephants, hippo and antelope on the river banks.

Nearby is the spectacular Buca Buca Lagoon, where a whole morning can be spent sitting quietly while the game comes down to the water to drink. Being so remote, guests have these scenes to themselves.

Tena Tena is one of Robin Pope Safaris Camps, all of which have the highest guide/vehicle to client ratio in the South Luangwa and all of which are the only camps that offer a fully inclusive rate, all luxury drinks being included.

Spend three nights at Tena Tena on a full board basis, including all meals, local drinks, park fees and activities.

Day five

After a morning activity and breakfast, you will be transferred to Nsefu Camp. Nsefu was the first game camp in Zambia and dates back to the early fifties.

The view of the river is superb and includes a terraced area where game grazes during the day. The bar, tucked in beside a huge extinct termite mound, overlooks a waterhole that is very productive for game, especially leopard at night. The original rondavels have been extended, with a spacious bathroom added. Each room has a clear view of the river, through large gauzed windows and from the new wooden veranda. The camp lies in the heart of the undeveloped Nsefu sector and so offers charm and total comfort in remoteness and seclusion.

Spend two nights at Nsefu Camp on a full board basis, including all meals, local drinks, park fees and activities.

Day seven

After breakfast, you will be transferred by road to Mfuwe Airport, in time to connect with a Proflight charter flight to the Lower Zambezi’s Royal airstrip. On arrival you will be met and transferred to Chongwe Camp.

Kenneth Kaunda, a former President of Zambia, reserved this part of the park for himself and since then the policy has been to keep development strictly controlled. Thus, the Lower Zambezi has become one of southern Africa's premier destinations for peaceful game viewing and unparalleled tiger fishing.

The camp itself looks onto the confluence of the two rivers and the mountains of the escarpment to the north. Under a complete canopy of huge winterthorn acacias, the camp has such an unrivalled site that David Livingstone used it twice on his travels.

Chongwe River Camp is a 'bush camp' ; elephant are more numerous than people in the nearby albida grove. There are no fences and the animals have complete right of way. The chalets are large, well appointed mulati tents under thatch, with a luxury open-air bathroom on suite and each commands fabulous views over the confluence of the Chongwe and Zambezi Rivers.

There is so much to do at Chongwe; the game viewing is exceptional and there is a wonderful choice of activities including game drives in open safari vehicles, guided walking, canoeing and motor boating. Fishing is also a popular option.

Spend three nights at Chongwe River Camp on a full board basis, including all meals, local drinks, park fees and activities.
