ITINERARY

Upon arrival in Kilimanjaro, Tanzania you will be met by a Pulse Africa representative and transferred to Karama Lodge. Karama Lodge & Spa is an eco friendly lodge located in Arusha and is the perfect home base for a safari or a restful night's sleep before climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro or setting off on safari. Situated at the top of the lush and serene Suye Hill, Karama is a unique lodge with a rustic, yet comfortable ambience providing a personalized service in a relaxing atmosphere. Twenty two stilted log cabins offer comfortable en-suite accommodation with a natural design; an excellent combination of unique comfort and style. Constructed with local materials, the cabins allow close proximity to the surrounding forest flora and fauna. Each cabin has its own wooden balcony with comfortable chairs where you can relax and admire the spectacular views of Mt. Kilimanjaro, Mt. Meru, the Maasai steppes beyond and the surrounding lush vegetation and birdlife. The restaurant offers superb views and guests have the choice of dining indoors or outdoors. There are numerous activities available in and around Arusha and at the lodge, The Spa offers holistic massages and yoga classes. Overnight at Karama Lodge on a dinner, bed and breakfast basis.
Day Two
After breakfast, you will transferred by road to Mto Wa Mbu village where you will do a walk and have lunch with an afternoon game drive in Lake Manyara National Park. At the heart of the northern Tanzania safari circuit, Rhotia Valley Tented Lodge is located halfway between the Rift Valley escarpment and Ngorongoro Gate, three miles from the main Arusha to Karatu road. Perched at 1700m, well above any malaria risk, the lodge overlooks local villages, terraced fields and is alongside the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. At night you can look down to the twinkling lights of Karatu town in the distance, whilst listening to the call of the hyena. Each of the fifteen tents has its own en suite shower room, a luxurious bed with hot water bottle and a private veranda overlooking the local farms and the Rift Valley. The furniture and floors are created from indigenous Tanzanian wood which is in complete harmony with the landscape. From sunrise until sunset every chair on the veranda, lounge and dining room offers breathtaking view across northern Tanzania. Rhotia is associated with Rhotia Valley Childrens’ Orphanage and all profits from the lodge go to sustaining the Orphanage, which guests are invited to visit. Rhotia is a perfect safari stopover, offering activities that include mountain biking and hiking and cultural visits to local villages.
Overnight at Rhotia Valley Tented Lodge on a full board basis.
Day Three
After a leisurely breakfast, you will depart on your full day game drive in the Ngorongoro Crater and continue after the drive to Ndutu Safari Lodge.
Ndutu Safari Lodge is situated not far from the border of the Serengeti National Park and the Ngorongoro Conservation area. Set amongst shady acacia tortilis trees, privately owned Ndutu Lodge provides simple and comfortable rooms with en suite facilities. The lodge is generator powered with candles in the bedrooms as a back up. The open air dining and bar areas provide an excellent view of Lake Ndutu and an opportunity to watch the birdlife, especially the thousands of brightly coloured starlings that congregate on the lawns. In February and March, millions of wildebeest gather in this area to calve and if you are fortunate enough to visit here at this time, you will witness some spectacular sights. On game drives in the area you are likely to see prides of lion which inhabit the whistling thorn bush around the lake as they lie in wait for the migratory animals. Or maybe you will be lucky enough to see a leopard high in an acacia tree with its kill.
Overnight at Ndutu Safari Lodge on a full board basis.
Day Four
After a leisurely breakfast you will depart on your morning game drive out of Ndutu and into the Serengeti followed by an afternoon walk.
The aim of the Wayo Green Camp is to be able to access remote areas in the easiest and most cost effective manner whilst still giving guests a high level of comfort. The camp is designed to be one of the most environmentally friendly camps operating in Tanzania today and is designed to fit on a small trailer towed behind the client safari vehicle. Tents are dome tents that are easy to set up with adequate space for two people. Toilets are shallow pit latrines and the showers are bucket showers. All meals are taken under the stars; however a mess tent is erected in case of bad weather. Meals are excellent as most are prepared in advance thus allowing for more elaborate dishes. Cold drinks, beers and a small wine selection are available.
The camp is a hundred metres from the banks of the Mara River and between July and September it is not unlikely to see a river crossing from camp. The walking area is to the west of the Kogatende Ranger post. It is in a wilderness zone and no other vehicles or people are allowed to come in to the area. You will thus have a huge area to yourself for the entire time you are there. Wildlife is fantastic and you will almost always have some sort of animal in sight. You generally cover less than ten kilometres per day and since it is generally not very hot, you start walking around 08h00 after breakfast, carry lunch with you and enjoy this at a lovely spot along the river. You get back to camp around 15h00 for a siesta, with late afternoons spent on the river bank with a sundowner and evenings around the camp fire. This really is a fantastic walking experience that is hard to beat anywhere.
Spend three nights at The Wayo Green Camp on a full board basis.
Day Five
A full day walking safari with Jean Du Plessis after breakfast.
Day Six
A full day walking safari after breakfast.
Day Seven
After breakfast, you will depart on a game drive out of the area towards central Serengeti before arriving at your overnight camp in the afternoon.
Kati Kati Camp offers an atmosphere of privacy with intimate isolation in an area of exceptional natural beauty, rich in wildlife and inhabited by spectacular local tribes. The camp is strategically located to cover the vast Serengeti plains with scenic drives in all directions. It offers comfortable accommodation in twenty tents with en suite facilities. The mess tent, where meals are served, is well kitted out in a central area of the camp. In the evening the campfire forms a central hub where guests enjoy appetizers and snacks whilst discussing the day's events before dinner.
Overnight at Kati Kati Camp on a full board basis
Day Eight
After a morning game drive, you will depart the Serengeti on a scheduled flight from Seronera. On arrival at Kilimanjaro Airport, you will be transferred to KIA Lodge.
Centrally placed between the northern towns of Moshi and Arusha and close to Kilimanjaro Airport, KIA Lodge is ideally situated with spectacular scenery all around. The Lodge has forty en-suite air conditioned rooms, with each cottage built in traditional style using thatch and Tanzanian arts and crafts, giving it a distinctly African feel. The swimming pool is spectacularly located on top of a hill affording a 360° panoramic view of Mount Kilimanjaro, Mount Meru, the Maasai steppe and onwards to the blue mountains.
Here you will be able to freshen up in your day room (room only basis). Later this evening you will be transferred to the airport for your flight back home.
