On the far northern border of South Africa lies a beautiful area known as the Great Marico and it is in this spectacular setting, in the malaria free Madikwe Game Reserve, that Tau Game Lodge is situated.

Madikwe Game Reserve is currently the country's fourth largest game reserve. It is situated in the North West Province and is bordered by Botswana in the north, the spectacular Dwarsberg Mountains to the south, the Marico river to the east. The diverse habitat in the reserve, from acacia, savannah to riverine, ensures a unique combination of species such as springbok, gemsbok, sable and impala. The birdlife is also spectacular.

Animals that inhabit the reserve include breeding herds of elephants, white and black rhino's, lions, cheetahs, spotted & brown hyena's, buffalo, leopards, zebra, endangered wild dogs, giraffes, ostriches, warthogs and various antelope.

The lodge was built in 1995 and overlooks a natural waterhole that attracts a variety of game, as does the diverse vegetation that thrives in the fertile topsoil. The lodge has since been revamped and offers comfort and luxury while still having a bush feel to it.

Tau Game Lodge was designed to reflect the natural surroundings. The main body of the lodge is two tiered, comprising a comfortable lounge, conference facility, entertainment room, bar and dining area which overlook the waterhole. The lodge is decorated with unusual artefacts and masks that have been collected from different corners of the African continent.

Delicious buffet breakfasts and lunches are generally served in the main building or on the veranda next to the plunge pool, while dinner is served in one of the cosy bomas or at the bush dinner venue under the stars.

Thirty rustic thatched chalets are spread out in U-formation on either side of the lodge, offering excellent views of animals approaching the water from the opposite bank. Each chalet has an en-suite bathroom and open-air shower as well as its own wooden game viewing deck, which allows guests to experience the bush in privacy. The décor and furnishings of Tau Game Lodge are Africa-inspired and the rooms are equipped with both air-conditioning and ceiling fans.
