The Okavango River, life-blood to the arid Kalahari plains, courses its way from the Angolan Highlands to flood the Delta on a perennial and annual cycle. On the cusp of the permanent Okavango, where desert meets delta, you will find Nxabega Okavango Safari Camp on a secluded 7000-hectare private wildlife concession.
This special tract of massive floodplains interspersed with palm belts, woodlands, perennial swamps, water channels and lagoons, is renowned for its superlative scenic beauty and great bio-diversity. Nxabega is unique in that it combines a water wilderness experience with the excitement of tracking the big game normally associated with the land camps. Game sighting opportunities include zebra, wildebeest, lion, leopard, cheetah, buffalo, elephant and giraffe.
Shaded by dense stands of African ebony and strangler fig trees, Nxabega has been designed to ensure that its open plan dining room, cocktail bar, lounge, wildlife reference library and expansive sundecks all offer unobstructed views over the surrounding floodplains. Other facilities at the lodge include a raised sundeck and plunge pool. Nxabega accommodates guests in ten classic Hemmingway tents raised on Rhodesian teak platforms, with private sundecks and en suite facilities.
Crisp white linen, soft kudu-hide headboards, parchment lampshades and dressing tables resplendent with leather boxes, complete the look.
Guests have a wide range of daily activities from which to choose: meandering along the floodplains and channels of the Delta by mokoro and tracking big game on foot or by open 4x4 safari vehicle in the mopane forests and open grasslands. The added highlight of an evening game drive by spotlight assures you of one of the most complete safari experiences in Botswana.
