Tafika Camp - South Luangwa - Zambia
Situated in on the banks of the Luangwa River in South Luangwa National Park, Tafika is set in the wilderness, some two hours drive from Mfuwe.
The remote location makes it ideal for those who really want to get away from it all and experience the bush in the true sense of the word. Being on the river, guests are provided with amazing views of the river offering the opportunity to see elephants crossing, hippos wallowing and kingfishers darting in and out the river.Shaded from the hot noon-day sun by giant leadwood trees, there are plenty of quiet spots to sit and admire the view, look for game that often roams in view of camp, read, or just close your eyes and listen to the sounds of the bush.
The food is excellent and supplemented by a supply of fresh fruit and vegetables from the kitchen garden. With six spacious chalets (including one family chalet) all built from natural materials, Tafika can accommodate a maximum of fourteen guests at any one time.Built round the trunks of stunning sausage trees, these thatched chalets all have en-suite facilities with the showers open to the stars.
Nestled in amongst this lush vegetation Tafika camp offers a very relaxing and peaceful base to enjoy walking safaris, bicycling trails and game drives (day and night). The beauty of Tafika is that you are unlikely to see other vehicles whilst game viewing and there is a great variety and plentiful supply of wildlife to see here. From Tafika, we can also arrange a visit to a local village and school, which will give you an insight to a totally different way of life. Tafika manages the Mkasanga School Fund which supports the local school with books, materials, teacher salaries and high school scholarships.
Better still is the opportunity to experience a thrilling microlight flight! Taking flight in the early morning sun gives you another perspective of the Luangwa Valley, following the meandering river as it flows into oxbow lagoons. Viewing game from the air provides a unique and wonderfully memorable experience for any guest and Tafika is the only place in the valley where you can experience this.
