236 Hurumzi is a fabulously fun and quirky hotel, recreating the mystery and exoticism of Zanzibar.Situated in the heart of Stone Town, the hotel (which is not accessible by vehicle) is owned and run by a charismatic American who has lived on the island for many years. All rooms have fans, a few have air conditioning and each has its own unique style. Some of the upper level rooms have showers that look out over the rooftops of Stone Town; some have baths incorporated in the room and some are decorated in exotic Zanzibar style. Whichever room you are placed in will have a delightful, memorable character of its own.
An interesting feature of 236 Hurumzi is the tower top restaurant, open in the evenings. The menu is set and consists of several courses of a wonderful array of Eastern, European and African foods, served to you as you sit on the floor and look out over Stone Town. For the less energetic, (there are many stairs to the top and no lift) is The Kidude Restaurant on the ground floor, serving excellent meals.
The new 240 Hurumzi is on the opposite side of the street and is decorated in slightly less elaborate style. It is also slightly more accessible having only two floors.
