Kipungani - Coast - Kenya

property - Kipungani [© 2011 Pulse Africa - pulseafrica.com]

Perched on a sandy bar under swaying coconut palms, Kipungani is private, secluded and very low key. The open lounge/bar area is furnished with enormous brightly covered cushions and sun-bleached furniture. The fifteen cottages that have thatched roofs and palm leaf walls are ingeniously positioned to ensure privacy. Each cottage has king size beds draped with mosquito netting, ceiling fans, private ocean facing veranda and bathrooms with double hand basins, flush toiled and fresh water shower. These lovely open plan rooms let in the air through windows with views of the sand and sea.

Dining at Kipungani is a gourmet experience with platters of seafood and fish adorned with giant crab claws and fresh salads that are flown in daily. The emphasis is on seafood but the chef is happy to prepare vegetarian and meat dishes on request. Breakfast can be served on the privacy of your veranda at a time of your choice.

For the more energetic, windsurfing, water-skiing, snorkeling and deep-sea fishing are available. You can also take a dhow safari to Lamu town with its historic mosques, narrow winding streets and colourful market places. With no cars allowed on the island the only transport is by donkey or dhow!
