Loisaba Starbeds - Mt Kenya - Kenya

Loisaba is on the edge of Kenya's northern territories in a huge private area with many different types of habitat. A unique opportunity offered by the lodge is the chance to sleep out on 'Star Beds' hosted by local Samburu and Laikipia Maasai warriors. This is generally an overnight during your stay at Loisaba.

The Star Beds, Loisaba's solution to finding comfort in the wild, are reached by vehicle, on foot, horseback or on a camel. Each Star Bed comprises a bespoke wooden platform, built craftily into boulders on a hillside overlooking a lake. Each platform is reached by a ladder and has a large double bed, loo and camp shower that runs with warm water. The thatched roofs only partly cover the platforms and the beds, on sturdy wheels, can be manoeuvred so you slumber sweetly under the African stars. Food is prepared in a traditional camp kitchen and is plentiful and delicious.

While not traditionally associated with big game, the ranch is home to leopard, buffalo, hippo and elephant and most are viewed often. There are also many activities on offer, including horse riding, camel riding, motor-biking, river rafting and helicopter trips. Alternatively you can relax at the spa and enjoy the view across the plains towards Mount Kenya.
