Jongomero Camp - Ruaha - Tanzania

Jongomero Camp is situated in the vast and unspoilt Ruaha National Park in south- western Tanzania. The camp is located under cool acacia trees on the banks of the Jongomero River – a dry riverbed for most of the year. Accommodation consists of eight beautifully appointed en suite tents, positioned for maximum privacy and set on raised wooden platforms, with private verandas overlooking the riverbed. The central dining and sitting area is in the deep shade of an ancient riverine tree, and the steep pitch of the thatch roof gives the area a cool, serene atmosphere. Deep, leather sofas and a range of coffee table books entice guests to relax in the heat of the day while sipping iced drinks from the bar. The swimming pool offers an alternative place to cool off – and provides a convenient spot for elephants to quench their thirsts at night!

Meals are mostly served under the stars, and the talented chefs consistently produce inspiring dishes flavoured with international and African influences. Fresh, organic local produce is used wherever possible, and it is not unusual to have an acacia twig kebab on your breakfast plate, bursting with succulent chunks of fresh fruit.

Activities take the form of game drives in customised open vehicles, and walks with professional guides. In addition, picnic breakfasts and lunches can be enjoyed in a variety of sites nearby. One such site overlooks the mighty Ruaha River from where one can look for the more elusive game such as lesser kudu, striped hyena, sable and roan antelope. All day game drives are a speciality at Jongomero, giving guests the chance to maximise their time in this beautiful wilderness area.
