The Cavern is a holiday resort offering Drakensberg accommodation in the KwaZulu Natal region. Named after the "Cannibal Cavern", it is situated on 3000 hectares of private mountain reserve adjacent to the Amphitheatre Royal Natal National Park - a World Heritage Site.

The Cavern is set in a secluded valley beneath the massive sandstone cliffs of the northern Drakensberg and the thatch accommodation and facilities blend beautifully with the natural surroundings of the area. The Cavern is home to numerous Bushman paintings, two hundred and thirteen species of birds, one hundred and fifty species of trees and numerous wild animals.

The resort offers daily guided hikes to such wonderful destinations as Thonsela Cave, Cannibal Cavern, Echo Cave and Sungubala amongst others. For the more energetic, walks are organized to the Tugela Gorge and to the top of the Amphitheatre. The Cavern offers an extensive range of sport and recreational facilities, from guided walks to horse trails through splendid scenery, jeep trips and trout fishing in five well stocked dams.

Standard accommodation is set in lush garden landscapes with a vibrant mix of indigenous plants filled with the sounds of bird-life. The superior accommodation has magnificent views of the surrounding mountains and all rooms have patios. With quality finishings, the superior and honeymoon suites are nests of tranquillity, each with its own private fireplace, patio, TV and bar-fridge.
