Bush House - Eastern Madagascar - Madagascar

Bush House is situated in Ankany Ny Nofy (the Nest of Dreams) and getting there is an adventure in itself. The journey involves an interesting boat trip through the fresh water lakes and canales of the Pangalanes, affording passengers the opportunity to view daily village life on the banks of the river. It is a good idea to keep waterproofs with you as the boat is generally uncovered and a short downpour can soak you! There are ferries transporting merchandise, wooden pirogues with fishermen, fields of cassava and piles of dried fish, wood and charcoal standing in heaps on the banks. Bush House is situated on a piece of land half way between the sea and the fresh water of Lake Ampitable. Built from local materials, it is well hidden in the forest.

Accommodation is provided in bungalows and rooms, all with private facilities. A generator produces light while meals are prepared on open fires and gas appliances.Activities include a wide range of water sports, hikes to local villages, trips to the sea and a worthwhile excursion to view the lemurs, reptiles and interesting plant life at the Bush House Reserve.
