Suspended in the Sand Forest, under great towering torchwood trees, is Phinda Forest Lodge. Hand built by the local Zulu people, the lodge has minimal impact on itís surrounding environment. Accommodation is in stilted glass chalets, floating between the forest floor below and the canopy of leaves above. The rooms are exceptionally luxurious, with air-conditioning and private en-suite facilities. The walls of the chalets open onto the forest, where animals such as red duiker, suni antelope and red squirrel abound.

Activities to choose from include twice daily game drives in open Land Rovers, nature walks and excellent birding in the Phinda Private Game Reserve. Riverboat cruises and canoeing along the Mzinene River. Visit to the local community school and clinic. Optional Phinda Adventures, which are available at an additional cost, include breath-taking coastal flights, beach excursions including snorkelling and scuba diving (open water one certificate must be produced), deep-sea fishing, turtle viewing (season Nov/Dec/Jan) and horse riding.
