Mchenja, one of the Norman Carr Safaris lodges, is a seasonal camp situated on the banks of the Luangwa River.

Norman Carr is a conservation legend in the Luangwa Valley. He pioneered walking safaris in the Zambian bush in the 1950s and is widely regarded as the father of walking safaris. He spent over 50 years devoting himself to the development of the South Luangwa National Park and built his first lodge, Kapani in 1986 where he lived until his death in 1996. Today Norman Carr Safaris is one of the leading safari operators in the Luangwa Valley and specialise in walking safaris, photographic safaris, wildlife and excellent quality guiding.

Accommodation at Mchenja is offered in five luxury wooden chalets that have been built on raised platforms under thatch and nestle under a grove of ancient ebony trees. All rooms boast spacious open-air bathrooms. There is main chitenge(lounge area) under thatch, which houses the bar and dining area, most meals though are enjoyed under the canopy of the magnificent trees outside.

Activities include game drives as well as walks. The camp has a small swimming pool that offers cool relief in the heat of the day.
