Situated in northern Zululand, Thanda Private Game Reserve is a celebration of the Zulu people and their rich culture. Not only will guests have the opportunity to learn more about their history and traditions, the people from the adjacent tribal land will benefit in many ways from the creation of Thanda Private Game Reserve. Born from a dream to create harmony between man and nature, Thanda is an exclusive hideaway and gives new meaning to ultimate luxury. Thanda is set on 5 300 hectares of land and has a main lodge, tented camp and wellness centre in a Big Five setting.

Thanda’s tented camp offers an authentic bush experience in accommodation reminiscent of a bygone era, and provides guests with an opportunity to experience this magnificent reserve in a comfortable, relaxed and more affordable way.

The tented camp has been designed in comfortable safari-style, best suited for guests who are searching for a genuine safari experience and who do not require all the bells and whistles. The fifteen tents each have viewing decks and en-suite canvas bathrooms and provide rustic yet comfortable accommodation from which to enjoy the wildlife in one of South Africa’s most beautiful reserves.

Public facilities at the tented camp include an attractive reception area, a curio shop, a new lounge area for guests to relax in, an enhanced dining tent, a 10x5 metre rim-flow pool and a new boma. Spa treatments by Africology can be enjoyed in the privacy of your tent.

Activities at the camp include game drives, bush walks and star gazing.

Vula Zulu, a traditional homestead situated next to Thanda has been created as a platform for African theatre. Between 50 to 100 warriors trained by a Zulu prince and a choreographer perform age-old dancing rites, as was done prior to and after battle. Thereafter, a traditional meal is served. Vula Zulu contributes to the sustainment of Zulu culture, through job creation and maintaining an ongoing interest in Zulu heritage.
