Ocean Sports is a small, relaxed family run hotel situated right on the sparkling white Turtle Bay Beach.

The main bar and dining area have beautiful views of the sea through large bay windows. The bar is adorned with casts of some of the huge marlin and sailfish caught in the waters beyond the protective reef. A favourite haunt of old colonial families and their descendants, the atmosphere is friendly and many new friendships have been forged between visitors and residents alike.

Accommodation is in cottages running along a low sandy ridge dotted with waving palm trees and vibrant bougainvillaea and overlooking the sea. Each of the twenty nine rooms has its own veranda and en suite bathroom. Every afternoon, allowing time for a siesta, your room steward will bring tea with scones and jam to your veranda!

The white, white beach stretches for several kilometres, protected by a coral reef. Small coral islands dot the bay including one shaped like a turtle, hence the name. Deep sea fishing, diving, snorkelling from glass bottom boats and windsurfing are available from the water sports centre at the hotel. An enjoyable day for the less energetic is to try a hand at bottom fishing in nearby Mida Creek or enjoy an evening "booze cruise" in this mysterious creek, lined with mangroves where you can easily imagine the slave ships of old lurking to pick up their illegal cargo. A few miles inland from the hotel is the ancient ruins of the city of Gedi nestled amongst tangled tropical forest, shielding an interesting and mysterious history. This Arab city was suddenly abandoned several centuries ago and, although there are many theories, the truth is still unknown.
