Sarara - Kenya - Mt Kenya - Laikipia - Mathews Range
Situated on the eastern edge of the Mathews Mountains, Sarara's views across the 75,000 arid acres of Namunyak are spectacular. The game was almost entirely killed off in the 1980s but has, in recent years, seen a wildlife renaissance, with elephants coming right up to the pool of the small lodge and three packs of wild dogs who had been making their home there. Sarara Ecolodge is booked on an exclusive-use only basis and with its five double tents with large beds, dressing areas and shady verandas and a beautiful open-plan sitting area and dining deck it is a perfect getaway for families and small groups. Run by the Samburu people of Namunyak, the lodge directs 100% of the profits back into the community.
