Domain Nature Hotel - Ranomafana National Park - Madagascar - The Highlands
Ranomafana National Park was only created in 1991. This fragment of mid-altitude rainforest first came to world attention with the discovery of the golden bamboo lemur in 1986. The reserve is rich in wildlife and hidden in the trees are 12 species of lemur, 100 species of birds, reptiles, butterflies and insects. There is equal variety in the vegetation and scenery, and enough pleasure in walking the well constructed trails to make a visit worthwhile. Be warned and prepared, although this is one of the most beautiful reserves, the trails are steep and arduous, it often rains and there are leeches. The hotel is a well-managed, friendly and popular hotel and is situated halfway between the village and the park. Fourteen bungalows overlook the river while the remainder are situated on the hillside. Picnic lunches are prepared for guests wishing to visit Ranomafana National Park. Breakfast and dinner is served at the hotel.
