PROPERTIES : Bird Island Lodge [Seychelles]

Bird Island Lodge - Seychelles - Outlying Islands

Northwest of Mahe, Bird Island is a small coral cay of 170 acres that is perched on the most northern edge of the Seychelles continental shelf. The island's only inhabitants are the lodge guests, many of whom are return visitors, and staff. The bird life is spectacular, ranging from one of the world's largest Sooty Tern colonies to the many migratory birds, amongst which there have been many first sightings recorded. In addition there are many resident seabirds which nest throughout the year, including the beautiful Fairy Tern. Bird Island is also a haven for nesting Hawksbill and Green Turtles. Accommodation at Bird Island Lodge is in one of twenty-four spacious bungalows with en-suite facilities, ceiling fans and a lounge area that can be converted to two additional beds. The lodge is one of the smallest in the Seychelles Archipelago and offers guests an intimate and personalised yet informal experience. In 1994 Bird Island won a British Airways Tourism for Tomorrow award and was declared a private nature reserve in 1996. It is also the Seychelles' only member of Green Globe, the environmental side of the World Tourism Council.
