Sand River Selous, perched on the banks of the Rufiji River, deep in the heart of the Selous Game Reserve, is considered by many to be one of Africa’s best safari lodges. Sleeping only sixteen guests in luxury open cottages, all fully insect proofed and en suite, the lodge offers superb comfort and luxury in one of Africa’s most remote areas. The lodge has a pool at river level and has a central bar and dining area built on the rocks that offer spectacular views of the river and surrounding flood plains. Activities in the area take the form of walks, game drives and boat trips on the river. The Selous Game Reserve is one Africa’s last wilderness areas and, together with a huge variety of general game, is home to wild dog and very occasionally, the rare black rhino. It is one of the few places where it is possible to experience the bush and its wildlife on foot. A leader in its field, Sand River offers specialist five day walking safaris and fly camping.
