Chumbe Island - West Coast - Tanzania - Zanzibar and Pemba Islands
Chumbe Island has been developed into one of the world’s most spectacular coral parks and is now a recognised private Nature Reserve. Made up of the Chumbe Reef Sanctuary, the Chumbe Forest Reserve and the Historical Lighthouse, the island offers a combination of spectacular shallow water snorkelling, superb birding (with over forty species, including the Roseate Tern) and a taste of Zanzibar’s culture. Accommodation is offered in only seven private bungalows, all built by hand with local materials such as mangrove poles and coconut leaf thatch. The bungalows are self-contained and are all en suite and are some of the most eco friendly and forward thinking in Africa. They have been built to blend in with their surrounds and are nestled on a small hill between the beach and the forest. Activities include snorkelling, walking and birding and boat trips.
