Isandlwana Lodge - Natal Midlands - KwaZulu Natal - Interior - South Africa
Isandlwana Lodge is built high up on the Nyoni Rocks on which the Zulu commanders stood to direct the Battle of Isandlwana. This magnificent location overlooks the enigmatic Isandlwana Mountain and historic battle site below, where the British Army faced one of its worst defeats, on the morning of the 22 January 1879. The lodge is built of thatch and stone with huge wooden columns supporting floor to ceiling glass windows, which afford a marvelous view in all directions. It is stylishly decorated with a combination of traditional and modern styles, and each bedroom has a private balcony.
Read a book in the upstairs library, relax beside a hillside rock pool or meet new friends in the intimate lounge. Dinner is served in the candle-lit dining room, which features chairs covered in iNguni cowhide, the Royal cattle of the Zulus. Meet Rob Gerrard, resident historian at Isandlwana Lodge, who will intrigue you with his talks on the Anglo Zulu War battles of Isandlwana and Rorke's Drift and the Anglo Boer Battles at Talana and Elandslaagte. Tours may be arranged to other Anglo Zulu and Anglo Boer sites, as well as to Blood River, all within easy reach of the lodge.
