Chongwe River Camp - Zambia - Lower Zambezi National Park
Chongwe River Camp is situated on the confluence of the Chongwe and Zambezi Rivers, directly opposite Mana Pools on the boundary of the Lower Zambezi National Park. The camp itself looks onto the confluence of the two rivers and the mountains of the escarpment to the north. Under a complete canopy of huge Winterthorn Acacias, the camp has such an unrivalled site that David Livingstone used it twice on his travels along the north bank of the Zambezi.
Be warned! Chongwe River Camp is situated in a wilderness area; elephant can be more numerous than people in camp. There are no fences and the animals have complete right of way. All chalets are large, well appointed Mulati tents under thatch, with ensuite luxury open-air bathrooms that command fabulous views over the confluence of the Chongwe and Zambezi Rivers. The Bathrooms are an experience on their own with all fittings being made from natural materials found near the lodge. Game drives, canoeing and walking are some of the many activities on offer.
