MOUNT KENYA, LAIKIPIA & MATHEWS RANGE [Kenya]

This area is an area unknown to package tourists because all the accommodation is on private land where you are treated more like a house guest than a tourist.

The eastern escarpment of the Rift Valley is divided into a patchwork of enormous ranches. Over the years, with cooperation from their owners, these farms have been transformed into game reserves and now contain large numbers of animals and some of the most exclusive lodges in these remote parts of Kenya. The area is extremely scenic with the escarpment giving way to dramatic wooded gorges and tangled riverine thickets.

A game viewing on horseback experience. Borana would not be the place it is today without horses. When the Dyer family first came here they were the only means of personal transport. Today, all their farms still have stables.
